Greencare K-Lite Orchid Fertliser

Greencare K-Lite Orchid Fertiliser features a balanced NPK (Nitrogen-Phosphorus-Potassium) ratio of 12-1-1. It is also enriched with 12% Calcium and 3% Magnesium, along with essential micronutrients, to support overall plant health.

Greencare K-Lite Orchid Fertiliser is designed to replicate the nutrient environment orchids naturally encounter. This formula is rich in nitrogen but low in potassium and phosphorus, and it provides sufficient amounts of calcium and magnesium.

Studies indicate that using high-potassium fertilisers on orchids could lead to an excessive buildup of potassium. This surplus of potassium may adversely affect their health and hinder the absorption of essential nutrients such as calcium and magnesium.

An analysis of rainwater that flows over orchid roots revealed it contains high levels of Nitrogen, but low levels of Phosphorus and Potassium. Additionally, this water is rich in Calcium and Magnesium. K-Lite orchid fertiliser was formulated to replicate the nutrient profile found in orchids' natural habitats.

  • Reducing Potassium Levels: Regular use of low-potassium fertilisers decreases potassium levels in plants.
  • Enhanced Nutrient Uptake: Lower potassium levels improve the absorption of essential nutrients like calcium and magnesium.
  • Benefits of Long-Term Use: Using low-potassium fertilizers over time leads to reduced disease incidence, better plant growth, and improved flowering.
  • Impact of Excessive Potassium: High potassium levels can interfere with the absorption of calcium and magnesium.
  • Orchids in Nature vs. Cultivation: In their natural environment, orchids are exposed to low levels of potassium and have adapted to conserve and accumulate it. Cultivated orchids are often exposed to higher potassium levels, resulting in excessive accumulation beyond their natural adaptation.

For further insights into the research on potassium levels in orchids, consider reading the article titled “What do Orchids Eat?” authored by Richard E. Lockwood.

K-Lite Application rates

The recommended weekly application rates for Greencare K-Lite Orchid Fertliser are outlined below:

  • A good starting point for most orchids is an application rate of 75 parts per million (ppm) Nitrogen (N) per week. If you don't have a scale, this is roughly equivalent to a slightly heaped teaspoon mixed into 10 litres (L) of water.
  • It's important to use the diluted solution within 24 hours after mixing.
K Lite weekly Application rates

For orchids that require less nitrogen, apply 50 ppm of nitrogen (N) weekly.

Many orchid enthusiasts advocate for fertilizing orchids with every watering. This mimics natural conditions, where rainwater carries nutrients over the orchid roots.

If you water your orchids three times a week and prefer to fertilize each time, divide the total weekly nitrogen amount by three. For instance, if your weekly nitrogen requirement is 75 ppm, use 25 ppm of nitrogen at each watering session.

Remember to use any diluted fertilizer solution within 24 hours after mixing it.

Available Sizes

  • Greencare K-Lite Orchid Fertiliser is packaged into plastic tubs containing 400 grams tubs. At 50 ppm Nitrogen, a 400 grams tub will make up 1052 litres of solution.
  • Please contact us if you would like to buy more than 400 grams. We do pack to order.

A K-Lite Success Story

I received this wonderful testimonial from Rick Lockwood.

Hi Rick,

Back in 2016, you came to Knoxville and gave a wonderful lecture on K-Lite, and then you sent me the information to add one rounded tes. of K-Lite to my 35 gallon fertiliser tank. You told me it would take about 4 to 5 years to see the results. It has been four years, and I am truly amazed at how well my orchids are growing and blooming!!

I didn't know if the fertilizer, at that strength, would be strong enough for my Vandas, but I use the same strength on everything except the Phrags, which, of course, require less fertilizer. My orchids have been blooming more than they ever have.

I have 21 Vandas either in bloom or spike, some of the blooming ones are hanging. The deep purple Ascod. Pine Rivers is one that I got awarded two years ago with one spike. It now has two blooming spikes and another spike in bud. I grow the Vandas in the Ali-flora clay balls with a hole on the lower side of the containers. I water them every day when I am at home.

I have had a lot of Cats. that have bloomed this past month and many more that are in spike. I fertilize every time I water.

I just want to send you a note of appreciation for sharing your knowledge and telling me the amount to use.

Thank you so much, I am so happy with the results!!
